Well, I think the major work in this category is Churchil's "The Second World War". He even received a Nobel prize in Literature for it!

Also:

"The Path to Leadership" by Montgomery
Charles de Gaulle too wrote a bunch of books, see them at the link below.

Yes there are. Two by generals that spring to mind are,

"War As I Knew It" by General George Patton (link 1)
"The Memoirs of Field Marshal Montgomery" by Viscount Montgomery (link 2)

Link 3 is to a website that contains a list of all the generals for each country that served in WW2 - there may be other books by the other generals.

From a politician's viewpoint and, above all else, you absolutely MUST read the series of books on The Second World War by Sir Winston Churchill
Vol 1 : The Gathering Storm
Vol 2 : Their Finest Hour
Vol 3 : The Grand Alliance
Vol 4 : The Hinge of Fate
Vol 5 : Closing the Ring
Vol 6 : Triumph and Tragedy
I've attached the link to Volume 1 and then you can navigate to the other volumes from this page (see link 4)

Patton exchange into head and shoulders above each and all the others. in my view, Omar Bradley is 2d in this record. 0.33 is Monty, yet exchange into the "instructors puppy" Eisenhower wasn't plenty extra effective than a supervisor, particularly truthfully - the different men have been "field Generals"

Winston Churchill wrote about the conflict and famously quiped, "History shall be kind to me for I intend to write it."
