Ovum is a haploid cell, like a sperm. The ovum is rounded where as a sperm has a head, neck, middle piece and tail. The sperm is motile, whereas the egg is non-motile. The ovum may be laden with yolk depending upon how much vitellogenesis has occurred. The ovum may be 12000 times bigger than a sperm. According to the amount of yolk an ovum may be megalecithal, oligolecithal, and microlecithal. The yolk in ovum is present in the cytoplasm. In sperm however the situation is just the opposite. There is sloughing of the cytoplasm during spermatogenesis as a result it sloughs off considerable amount of cytoplasm along with other cytoplasmic organelles. In terms of genetic content however both the sperms and ova are equivalents.
