Schopenhauer, in his "Eristic Dialectics", points out that you tend to stick to your opinion, because even if you can't prove it now, you might be able to prove it later.

So, sticking to your opinion against evident proof is just rational behavior.

Better the devil you know.If you don't beleive you are correct then how will you ever be functional?

But there is a cure for that, when you doubt everything at least once and then you start to feel less sure of your worldview, leading up to a neurotic phase and then you come around only to claim that you are right once again.sigh......

It may be pride. I just don't allow myself to think I'm right because the other person might know more than I do in a particular subject.

It is called 'having faith in one's convictions' (if you agree with their opinion)
'Pig-headedness' if you do not agree.
He can sometimes be persuaded to change his opinions. (Good luck with convincing HER to change her mind.
