I suggest that it is naive to assume that just because dates change a way of life changes. In fact, things on 1 January 1900 were no different to how they had been on 31 December 1899. It is arguable that the noughties of the 20th century were very much a continuation of the 19th. Although a number of discoveries were made (flight being probably the most notable) no real change took place until during and after the 1st World War which led to a complete change in social structures etc. My father-in-law was born in 1913 and died two years ago at the age of 91. In his lifetime he saw public radio and television broadcasting start, motor transport become the major form of movement of goods and people on land, flight between continents - computers, the internet....Socially there had been the rise and fall of communism, the much shorter rise and fall of Nazi Germany. But all of these things were driven as a result of WW1 Without that I think our world would be considerably different.
