Can i just clarify - my son is going on holiday with his grandma who lives between england and ja. He is not going to a resort and will be out and about - beach etc. When he is at 'home' if he wants to play the playstation he will be monitored. He is not addictied to playstation. I am sure when he is home in the evening it is another addition to things he can do. He normally lives in a house with his brother and sister. But he is going 2 be the only child in the house. So 4 those that have suggested other activiities - they will all be done also. My mum has english sockets in her house - and i just wasnt sure if the tv would pick up the ps2

The Play station will work as long as the TV has an av input jack. A PlayStation is not like a cell Phone.
geography has nothing to do on if it will work or not.
Unless you child is under 12 why would he want to stay in a room and play a game..And if that's what he wants to do
Find a sitter and leave him in the states. do not waste the money to Take him.

If ue coming from the UK u need an adapter if ur coming from the US then you have nothing to worry about as many Jamaicanshave US electricals in their home as the powervoltage is the same, Englands is stronger by alot so if this is where ur from ur PS2 will not work OR run veeery slow. I couldnt play my video cassettes in Jamaica back in the day because of the diff (like America) and if you have something like hair straighteners for eg they might take longer to heat up or not heat up at all.
So yeah you can bring it but that would prob help make ur suitcase too heavy and u might have to pay extra for luggage.
Lastly, is it really worth all that? I mean I really think he should look to make friends in the community and really seek to enjoy Jamaica, the freedom, the adventure. It also depends on how long he is staying for, some months? Then sure carry the PS2. Some weeks? Lef it at home he dont need it that much and at least he will have something to look forward to when he comes home.
Im heading to Jamaica too in 2 weeks IM SO EXCITED. I hope ur son has a great time but he's better off doing without the games for a while so he can appreciate life differently.
PS when I was a kid and went to Jamaica I was never bored although u say he willhave no young fam around him Im sure he can find something more constructive to do.

I have just come back to UK after spending five months in Jamaica with my daughters family. There were two children in the house aged 5 and 7. It is often too hot for them to play in the sun so taking a playstation is just a way to occupy the child for a while.

You say your mother has UK sockets in her house, but is the whole house wired with UK voltage?
The usual voltage in Jamaica is 110...same as the US, so I dont think it will work.
On another note, there are SOOOO many things for kids to do whilst in jamaica, like playing out in the sunshine, playing with animals, riding a donkey....ect....leave the PS at home.

Most of the play station that are in Jamaica were purchase over seas. if you may need an adopter,you can purchase it it Jamaica, lot of returning resident from UK & US bring their personal belonging with them and they all work
some may need an adopter for the type of socket
our socket are like the US, Just bring all your personal items you may need, you don't have to call no 800 0r 888 numbers for information, we ar living in a civilize world.

It will work in Jamaica. Our electronics and appliances are bought from USA. The only place you would have to be careful of is in Europe and Africa because of difference in power supply.
*** with regards to your clarification: If she has european voltage wired in her house then it may be a problem since it can destroy the game. I hope your son enjoys the time.

I don't know if it will work, but if someone insists on living in a Playstation bubble even when in Jamaica, then I'd be tempted to say no. At least when they're in Jamaica, they see and experience Jamaica, not Playstation.

Yes it will work as Jamaica is becoming more and more Americanize in what we Consume.Anything and every thing in consumer goods are making it to Jamaica.

where r u staying there many of the resorts have games for th kids... They have the same power as we do however it depends on the TV hook up. But like one of the following Yahooers said you don't want him in the room playing that. You don't want you holiday spoiled watching him play his game. Depending on his age he shouldn't be left alone. I do know that the Holiday Inn Sunspree resort has ton's of things for your child to do.

I agree with no name, but if you must call the toll free number of any hotel there, or their national reservation center to get that info.
