Wow, you have some very different choices there and all vary in quality.
Lets look at Penang First. I definitley would not stay in The Bay View resort. When I was in Penang we had numerous families who checked into our hotel after leaving the Bayview because the standards were not good enough. Saying that, it was 18 months ago so things may have changed, mind I still wouldn't go if I had the choice, but thats just me!
We were in the Shangri-La Golden Sands- Deluxe Sea View with Balcony. The next time we went we decided to go to the other Shangri-La, it's called the Rasa Sayang resort and has just re-opened after a multi-million pound refurbishment. It is trully excellent and I would highly reccommend that to you.
The Holiday Inn was better than the Bayview, but I've heard it's also gone downhill so I stick to what I said and reccommend the Shangri-La Hotels first. The Golden Sands is the cheaper of the two but Rasa Sayang is the best.
Whatever you do, don't go to The Mutiara- it's miles away from everything and you need to taxi around everywhere!
The night market is outside the Shangri-la hotels and well worth visiting for bargains but do remember to haggle- they expect it!
Your KL hotels are also variable, steer clear of the Corus and the Crown Princess. The Legend is the best on your list along with The Grand Seasons, but The Mandarin Oriental is better!
If I were you, I'd check out something like "trip advisor" see what the current reviews are for all the hotels and make your decision before you part with any cash!
Well done though on choosing Malaysia for your holiday. It is a wonderful place with very friendly people and you will have a trully wonderful time!
Happy Holidays!
PS Always try and upgrade your room if possible especially in Batu Ferringhi (Penang) where you really want an ocean view. Not all rooms have a balcony so check carefully before booking.
The rooms facing the road can be quite noisy in the evenings but the sea views are lovely.
In KL, again try and upgrade if you can to the next category. One thing they do is call all their standard rooms "deluxe rooms" to make you think you are getting a free upgrade, but always ask what the upgrade is. You may find that for just a little extra you can really enjoy some luxury.

Penang, Hotel Equatorial Penang Strategically located on the Southeastern part of Penang Island, the Hotel Equatorial Penang commands panoramic views that encompass the island's striking coastline, the spectacular Penang Bridge. KL, Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur Very conveniently situated in the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Corus Hotel offers a great accommodation for both leisure and business travellers

Yes, Corus Hotel would be a good choice because it is near KLCC (not sure if it's walking distance)
But Legend Hotel is right next to the LRT station so moving about in KUala Lumpur will not be a problem.

In KL, I would recommend you to stay at Corus, because it's the nearest to KLCC, within walking distance. The alternative will be Crown Princess. Legend is too far from city center and Grand seasons is totally not recommended, very old hotel.
In Penang, BayView will be a better pick.

I can help you with Kuala Lumpur........I would suggest you to stay either these two hotels...which are Legend Hotel and Corus hotel..
legend hotel, one of the advantage is that it is very very very very very near to the Light rail Transit(LRT)...From here, you can use the LRT and go anywhere around Kuala lumpur as the LRT linkes to most of the famous attractions in Kuala Lumpur...
Corus Hotel, great and nice hotel......One of the advantages is that it is just a 5-10 minutes walk to the tallest twin building in the world(Petronas Twin Towers).....Around there, you can do your shopping at Suria Klcc and Avenue K if you love shopping....In addition,Just at the foot of the twin towers, there is an underground LRT station.......have a nice trip!!!!...

There are so many hotels in Penang. But those two hotels are beach hotels. Holiday Inn is much more expensive, however if u take the hill view, than its cheaper.

Hi there..
looking at the selection given frm your travel agent..personally the legend hotel will be a good choice..
but if you want that nearer to the twin tower..crown princess is good too..these are the 4 star affordable hotels. but if you want my personal choice, i will always go for Istana Hotel as its a 5 star hotel with 4 stars room rates..very affordable..the rooms are excellent..facilities and dining are great too..and its near to every glizty and classy area in Kuala Lumpur.
if its in penang..both hotels are nice and if you have the option to pick other.. i will go for parkroyal or shangrila rasa sayang..both are excellent but be prepare for extra budget as both are 5 stars hotels and room rates are a liltle bit high..but if you want memorable holiday..why dont spend a lil' bit..!
hope this will help you..btw..welcome to malaysia! have a nice trip !
