You cannot own a star (yet). And those sites that name a star for you are really misleading. Stars are named or designated by the various astronomical unions (not like steelworkers union, but it is called a union nevertheless). The name you buy for 54.95 or so is only a copyrighted name and not the official name of the star. Such as it is there is nothing wrong with that system and many people use it, but still, it is not the official astronomical name of the star.

You cannot buy stars. If you mean naming a star after someone, that is not the official name. The official names of stars are named by the International Astronomical Union.

You mean, How do I throw my money away? You can get "authentic certificates" stating that you bought a particular star for someone, but it is not worth the paper it is printed on. Better off to start your own business doing just that, make a nice certificate to send people who want to register a star for someone they care about. Of course, you'll have to do some research to price stars correctly, stars like Alpha Centauri and Sirius will fetch better prices than common stars

You can name a star by going to the site below. You get a certificate & the star will be known by that name for all time. You won't actually own it

Are you referring to the stars in the sky? I wish you would just leave them alone and respect these luminous balls of plasma.
