At this time of year, in Australia, it is kitten season and we have been getting lots and lots of pregnant cats/ abandoned kittens/ mother cats and kittens as well as the "usual" amount of strays and and surrendered cats. We start getting the pregnant females in around late September onwards. Puppies and dogs come in mist of the year round, but holiday time there is an influx

For USA this may help:

For rabbits it's a few months after Easter, so many are sold as easter bunnies. The saddest part is a lot of rabbits are euthanised straight away as some shelters feel they're hard to place.

Animals also tend to be dumped when they're around 6 months old as this is when they stop being so cute, start getting hormonal and the novelty wears off.

Puppies and kittens.......and just after Christmas.

So many people buy pets as gifts without thinking if the recipient wants a pet or if they can take care of it. It makes me see red.
