Instead of mausoleums or graves we would cultivate fields of trees and fruits
It would be a type of renaissance, we be one with the earth in that return to the powder

I think planting trees in memory of our loved ones is an excellent idea, we did it for both my mom and my husbands mom, they were both keen gardeners and loved the outdoors, a great way to remember people and a good way to help the environment too.

Until we needed another road, another neighborhood, or more fields for agriculture.

Since life and death are a cycle, what if we planted some type of plant or shrub instead. Trees tend to choke other plants out and take up space, shrubs and other plants help even with flood control and could be easier to relocate.
More and more people are opting for cremation, so maybe in a couple of generations we will not have the graveyards and mausoleums. Still we should do something to remember them, and with digitlal photos, recordings and ever condensing memory, maybe storing our loved ones digitally is an answer as well.

I plant to have this done when I die, a cheapo cardboard coffin with a tree planted on top.
The idea of fruit is a bit 'icky' though, I certainly wouldn't like to think I was eating it! I think I'll have a nice oak or maple something.

we erect monuments because they stand the test of time. Its a way to create an everlasting memory of someone. A tree in memory will die long before a good headstone will crumble.

Though I dont dislike your idea at all. It could be done in conjuction with a memorial.

Yes. But what about the cities and farms... where would you put those? Power plants, shops, offices, motorways and schools. And what about land fill? I suppose we could all live in tree houses, hmm?

That's a great idea.

There are companies around the world that offer natural burials, which is pretty much exactly that.
