Warren Beattie.
But the question is:
Does he think the song is about him?
Doesn't he?
Doesn't he?

i just found this on wiki
"You're So Vain" is a song written by and performed by Carly Simon in 1972.
The song is a sarcastic profile of a self-absorbed lover. The song was a number-one hit (it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in early 1973, and also spent two weeks at the top of the Adult Contemporary chart, her first #1 song on either chart), and spawned what many fans consider to be the biggest musical mystery of the era. There has been much debate over who exactly the song is about. Popular guesses on the subject include Mick Jagger (who sang backing vocals on the song), Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, unfaithful fiancé William Donaldson, and Simon's ex-husband, James Taylor.

Lyrics by: Carly Simon
Music by: Carly Simon
You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed
That they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams
They were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee and....
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
Well I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all of the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy
Or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and....
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

No one knows for certain, apart from Carly Simon and the guy who bid to find out at a charity auction. Simon whispered the answer to him and him alone.

Contrary to popular belief that the song was about Warren Beatty, I can assure the public that the title was given to her by her friend, the reclusive American writer and poet, Linda J Cirillo, after they went to see Jack Nicholson at his Malibu beachfront home in 1971.
Nicholson reportedly made a pass at Linda J Cirillo and told him that he was so vain and not that good looking.

The most common answer to this is "Warren Beatty" who I think was a Hollywood "actor" in the '70s.
Yep I'm pretty sure it was about Mr. beatty.
