it takes a much more wider variety of work to show up at the top of the search engine listings
a key thing is getting as many links back to your site as possible
some things you can do are:
submitting your site to as many site directories as you can (preferrably high page rank and traffic ones)
post in forums related to your site, and have a link to your site in your signature file
write articles and submit them to article directories, and have a link to your site in your resource box
blogging with unique fresh content helps too, then ping your blog with pingoat.com
these are just suggestions but realize that for whatever keywords you want to show up at the top for, you are probably against some real heavy competition so it's going to take focus and consistent action
also these are just offsite SEO ideas, you also much onsite SEO to do as well

It's best to go to the respective websites and submit your website. Going for third party submissions may be fast but you'll receive 'spam' in no time.

you have to pay fee's to get it up at the top. Make sure your tags are as effective as possible... and add a few crazies in there too!
