it isn't international, but it is from the same root. originally there were a lot of separate computer networks, the internet was designed to tie them together. Thus "internet" means "across networks" like international means "across nations"

I can define 'internet'. It is a global network that connects millions of computers and it operates using a common set of communications protocols ie TCP or IP protocols.

the inter represents outside or something like it as of International or intercontinental..
and the net corresponds to Networking which is the term for computers connected to communicate t each other..
