yes and most of them are hypocrites. our DUI judge places people in jail, takes away their freedom, but it's okay for him to sit on the bench drunk. the whole town knows it, the lawyers, the cops, etc. we watched the cops pull him over one night and they gave him a ride home, (we followed), but how can you fight it?

No, I have worked in the California court system, and basically, I think the judges are doing a good job. The limits are the people they come to trust. For example, there is usually a thing called "child protective services," or some such thing. Judges tend to believe the social workers in this organization know what they are saying, and tell the truth about the "best interests of the child." That's not really the judge having too much power, as the social worker (or probation officer, parole officer, other sort of "authority" which might testify in a given case) having too much power as a result of the judge's reliance upon their "professional judgment."

On the contrary... our judges do not have enough power. Unfortunately, often times the fate of a convict rests in the hands of his peers. Peers that we cannot guarantee are educated, mentally and physically ready to take on a trial. I'd rather my fate rest in the hands of some one who understands the law and has practiced it for many years.

No not at all as there are so many checks and balances in the Judical system at all levels. What we do need to do is to find a way that all of the balances are available to all not just the few who can pay for them.
