I have known him for some years and he sent me a text the other day he had done a stupid thing and driven home drunk because he didnt have the taxi fare. I told him not to do it again, but he did and last night crashed into a parked car and drove off.
Will he find out it was me that reported him?

No, you will be anonymous....unless you are the ONLY one that knows or there wasn't anyone else around that coulda seen it. I'm usually not keen on narcs, but if the idiot smashed someones car and then left, he deserves it!!

When you told him not to do it again did you give him your number so he could ring you if it happened again? He's done it again already!!! He's being very irresponsible - You are not responsible for him. If he is old enough to have a licence he knows right from wrong and DRINK DRIVING IS A CRIME!!! Next time (and there WILL be a next time) he might hit a pedestrian, or a family, or .... Do him and every other road user a favour and report him. He probably has a ding in his car which will match the one in the one he hit, so the Police will have that to go on. You dont even have to give your name. DO IT !!!

It seems like if he has been honest with you and knows that he made a mistake it should be left at that. Its nice he trusts you. My question would be is this an isolated thing? If so let it go. If not try to get him some help. I don't think the police should be involved at this time.

you should not report him, you should find another way to help him, but if you only don't want him to find out it is you then I think he will know.

I think you should report him, because IF you don't.... next time he will either kill somebody or get himself killed.
