Are there any sites to get reviews of apartments from current or former tenants?
So I can get a feel for possible pros/cons of places?

As a real estate agent I suggest you check out the following sites www.apartmentratings.com or www.apartmentreviews.net
both are very helpful.
Also, you may want to check out the consumer advocates for tenants rights by visiting their website at www.thelemonclub.com.
However, I find it best to personally visit the properties during various hours of the day and make sure it's a comfortable place for you to live in.

Those two sites are good ... but if a complex is large enough there may be a special yahoo group or message board for it.
Take a lot of what you hear with a grain of salt because a lot of those people either have a grudge against the management or it's such a glowing review that it's probably fake.
You can also ask for opinions on a local city or town message board.
