There are 1000mcg in 1mg therefore 400mcg is 0.4mg. As folic acid (as folate) is a B vitamin it is water soluble so don't worry about having 5mg, any extra that the body doesn't use will be flushed out rather than accumulating in your body.

Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy xx

The ones up have answered the metrics - but I'll give you some advice. If you buy the Pregnacare tablets, you won't need to worry about counting the right amounts as these tablets have the right amount of everything, including folic acid that you require. Just a thought.

Hi there.

The recommended amount or Folic Acid for women in pregnancy, according to the British National Formulary (BNF) is 5mg (5000mcg) daily. This is from conception to the 12th week of pregnancy. Prior to conception, upto 400mcg (0.4mg) is required to reduce the risk of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida.

HTH and good luck!
