Barring few most of the Bollywood stars have only basic minimal education. So to prove their smartness, knowledge and education they generally speak in English when they are in Public. Because they know that Indian public is yet to forget their Colonial past and get easily moved by the person who speaks in English. This is nothing but impressing Indian public.

There are huge international audiences for bollywood films that may or may not speak Hindi. Don grossed 3 million dollars in the US alone. International audiences are what really determines if a film fails or succeeds.

Bollywood, like Hollywood, reaches all parts of the world. In a world (and a nation) which uses many different languages and dialects, English is the most widely-recognized and understood, if not necessarily the most preferred, language in use.
Business is business. Stars and studios know what will reach the most people, so they use it.

Because speaking English in India is seen as a symbol of status.

They may earn such status speaking Hindi, but they keep that status speaking English.

I'm guessing because English is the adminstrative language in India in politics. Educated people in India are taught in English after a certain point as I undertand it. Even if they aren't they learn it in school.

so they want to impress that they are well educated,i think it is the common practise now in india that they avoid the mothertung and speak in english.
