My friend came over to the house 6 weeks ago with her mum, and we ate and had coffee with my mum too (my friend's mum gets on well with my mum). I went on holiday and sent my friend a postcard soon after and so far I've not heard a thing from my friend. She likes to take it in turns to phone and I really do feel I've outgrown my friendship with her. Shall I let her get in touch with me now? She's left it as long as 8 weeks before she's phoned me, even when I was going through stresses at home. If it isn't "her turn" to ring she won't ring, regardless of what I'm going through. I'm not like this at all. If I want to speak with someone I will. I don't take it in turns.

It sounds to me that this friendship dosent have a firm foundation. When people are into that setup were you only ring when you have been rung on the phone is not a sign of a good friendship.
A true friend wants to speak and see you...I would still keep her as a friend but dont put too much emphasis on her being a "best" friend. Find others who will contact you more often and because they want to.

She doesnt' sound like much of a friend to me. PLus you've saoid you've "outgrown" the friendship, so I guess deep down you know what to do.

I had a friend like that once upon a time, and I just let it go. Its annoying and a little upsetting to be the one doing all the phoning.

You sound a little confused and I must admit just reading your post has made me confused too. The taking of turns is kinda old-fashioned, but my mother (86 yrs) still does it. Over the past ten years she has fallen out with friends who didn't "take their turn" - on one occasion the "friend" was in hospital, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it? We still to this day don't know whether the "friend" came out of the hospital on her feet or in a wooden box.

You will never have so many friends that you can afford to throw any of them away over something petty like this.

Friends are supposed to be there for each other.
If you were going through stuff at home then your friend shouldn't care if its "her turn" or not. She should be calling you up everyday to see how things are.
I'd call time on the friendship and find someone who can devote some sensitivity to you.

Well, maybe before you make a big decision you should consider both sides. Firstly, you should find out if anything is happening that is stopping her from calling. If there isn't, I agree with the previous comments, you should try and find someone else who will be there for you.

Sorry, I thought the question was going to be about letting your friend sodomise you. This isn't so much my cup of tea, but since I'm here, why don't you just talk to the biatch about it and if she's still a bit of a **** about it, tell her to poke it.

You women are goofey.

Obviously, you're paying more attention to her than she is to YOU. Why do you even ponder the question? Forget about her, but don't hold any vengence.

You sound far more grown up and mature than this friend of yours. Dump her and get yourself some new mates :-)

I would leave it up to her. She doesn't sound like a good friend to me
