Hi all,

I'm travelling through Kenya and Tanzania for the following couple of weeks. Is there a place along the Indian Ocean where I should definitely spend a couple of days to conclude my voyage?

Mombasa is definitely a cool place to go to. If you can manage to find your way down to one of the two inlets by the sea, you can see all kind of cool rocks and fish due to the fact that it's all coral. Don't cut your foot on the coral, either...it'll start to grow in your foot, and you'll have to cut it out! There's a place called Youth With A Mission - this is where I stayed - and it had a short path that led right down to the beach where the reef was. Look out for sharks, though. A couple months before we got there, one of the missionary kids went swimming and died from a shark attack. There are also those little spiky, poisonous balls. And chasing crabs into their holes is the most fun ever. Also, if you can arrange it somehow, you should try to get out of the towns and away from the lights. The sky is so clear if you just get out at night. It was amazing seeing the night sky like that.

Also, yes, go to the Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi when you have to fly back out. It's on the north side of town, about 20 minutes from the airport. They cook zebra, ostrich, antelope, crocodile, topi, and all kinds of other things. It's delicious. They usually choose something like six or seven meats each day out of the 12 they have available. Zebra was the most suprisingly good stuff ever. Tastes and feels like beef, but has some sweetness to it. If you eat the crocodile, however, be careful. My 12 friends and I all went to the Carnivore, and we all ate the same stuff. Except for one thing, which was the crocodile. I was the only one who ate that. I felt fine on the flight from Kenya to Amsterdam, but on the flight from Amsterdam to Detroit I went to the bathroom 14 times. I'll remember that terrible flight forever.

Are you going to Masai Mara? Safari park way out northwest in Kenya...good stuff.

Tanzania coast is longer than Kenya (900Km).Tanzanians are most hospitable people in East Africa. You should never miss the Island of Zanzibar famous beaches and the rich history and culture of the Islands. However if you want to visit paradise like quite beaches and Marine life visit Mafia Island Marine Park,It is only 40 minutes flight from Dar es salaam.Apart from Mafia Island itself there are seven small Islands you can visit by hiring a small boat in one day.You can call me in Dar es salaam on my cell phone +255 754 982942 or +255 754 843624 for more free advice (nobody is paying for advice here)

If you manage to go across to Zanaibar you should check out it's Stone Town. Mombasa is also nice. Also if you are not vegetarian, you must try the Carnivore restaurant or at least try some "Nyama Choma" locally (unless you're vegetarian)
