I have often seen them. The moon light will show upper atmospheric pollution that may be caused by large fires, this was a banner year for brush fires. As I write a large Volcano in Italy is spewing ash. In short anything that would give off a significant amount of pollution. if you remember the date it was, go to the library and research the newspapers for calamities on that date. A fine mist can magnify the moons light. I remember seeing pollution rainbows from the oil wells that were set burning in freeing Kuwait from Iraq.
