This is how I play Monopoly with my sister :
- we take one third of the street cards each before starting the game
- we take more money at the beginning
- we can put houses on streets even if we already got a hotel
- we allow stealing in the bank (but onely if the other player doesn't see it)
That's quite funny when at the end of the game, we found money in our sleeves, our socks ;o)

Selling off property to the highest bidder at any time
If someone lands on a property and does not want to buy it the others start a bidding war and the one who's turn it is takes the money over the listed price
You do not have to use the metal figures supplied in the box, my particular favourite is a piece of rose quartz

Most homebrew rules make the unbalance the game so it runs way to long. The only variant to play is the official Stockmarket (one word) variant found here:http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=cs_instructions&letter=S

auctioning off property to the highest bidder is quite acceptable during your turn. "Sealed bid"
just like in the real world.
