You'll need to be a bit more specific on the first one. Did you mean:
(8)^(X^2) - 2x = 1/2
or
(8)^(X^2 - 2x) = 1/2
The parenthesis can make the difference.
Also, you have to do logs, and I can't for the life of me remember how to do them. Algebra II was ten years ago.

if the eqn is
8^(x^2 - 2x) = 1/2
then we have
3(x^2 - 2x) = -1 as solution
for
(1/5)^(2-x) = 25
we have
-(2-x) = 2
or x=4 as solution
