Try the psychological approach called transactional analysis, the parent adult child model by Eric Berne, it really is effective!!!! Psychology is an amazing tool to help with human behaviour, relationships and communication! Start with a simple book to introduce you to psychology, then progress to others. You will be glad that you did.
I wish you all the best! :o)
I am a psychology graduate.

depends what you mean by communication difficulties. Does the child have a learning disability? If the child has got a learning difficulty you can use a number of strategies such as PECS - (Picture exchange communication) where they make requests by making a sentence up using symbols - or if they are able enough they can use words (WECS). This approach is actually designed to encourage speech. Not sure if I am going down the correct line or not.

Refer to the child or adult in the third person in all communication that has some relevence to what or how that person is brhaving.

For example.

David is good. David wishes to help with cutting the apple.

Helping is a good thing.

David must wait to help cut the apple.

Waiting your turn is a good thing.

David is good. and so on.

All communicated in warm but quiet and soothing tones.

How about YOU think of this and do your own research and homework!

If you want the qualification put in the work and commitment.
