The goal being to turn my laptop into an access point for my PSP, because I don't have a wireless router at home but I do have a wi-fi card for my laptop. The laptop is connected to a wired router for internet access at home, and its wi-fi card is only used when I'm on the go. Just wondering if I could use the laptop as a gateway for other wireless devices at home.

Any other information on setting up home-made access points would be good too.

You need to enable ad hoc networking on the laptop, then configure internet connection sharing. Here is a tutorial on how to do it: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx
