In an axle turn, usually you prep with a stamp-turn to the right, arms in shortened first. When your left leg steps, fouette your right leg at the exact same time out into second (your left leg is in a plie), and bring your right arm out to second too (left arm stays). Tuck both legs in and spring up, your right arm coming over your head and back into shortened first. The momentum from the stamp-turn should allow you to turn all the way around in the air. (Remember to spot.) Bring your left leg back down to land and step out your right leg into a rock position. It's a tricky move to explain, easier shown than said.

For higher kicks, work on your abs! Sounds funny, but it's true. Also, stretch your hamstrings, practice your splits, and do lots of battements at the barre.

I don't have any tips for axels, but to improve the height of your kicks, you need to strengthen the muscles that you kick with. The best way I found is to get some of those strap-on ankle free weights and use those as you practice. It will also increase your endurance for being able to kick for longer periods since your legs won't get as tired when you're not wearing them. You can find them at pretty much any sporting goods store, and probably even Wal-Mart or Target. I would suggest starting with three pounders and work up to five pounds. It may not seem like a lot, but believe me, it will after a few 8-counts.

To get kicks higher watch yourself in the mirror. Start with your kicking leg behind you and try to kick above your shoulder. Your standing leg should be slightly bent (straighten it when you kick) so you can put some power into the kick. Make sure you keep your torso upright and don't tilt into the kick. Your back should be straight throughout the kick. Sometimes it helps to put your arms straight out from your shoulders that way it's easier to see if you are tilting into the kick.

I'm not sure about the axles. Is it like a double-fan kick done behind you? If so, try using a chair and starting it from a bent leg. Make sure the chair won't fall over. It will help you get comfortable with the axle without hurting yourself. Then try without the chair.
