There has been a couple of times, When my wife (for 24 Yrs) has been really down and kind of depressed.
I went and bought a nice fountain pen, Parchment and sat down and wrote her a nice long love letter. When I sent it to her via US mail. I included the pen, and a short message that this pen could not in it's life time ever write a more sincere group of words and express a greater love then I have for her. Thus retiring the pen.
She still has both letters and both pens.
She thought it was really nice.
Good luck in all things

I don't understand why I have to put this on Yahoo!Answers but since you have asked.

I was standing on a street. Suddenly I saw one cab stopped in the middle of the road by a person on bicycle and he was shouting at the Cab driver and the passenger. A crowd of people mostly scoundrels had surrounded the cab.

I felt that these guys will start a fight.
I decided to move in (which is not what I usually do).
The scoundrels tried to stop me.
But I stratight went to the cabbie and asked what happened.

The young man on the bicycle was still showing his fists.
They both started blaming the other party.

I told cabbie "you do anything stupid then I will really have to see you." Hearing this the cabbie cooled down. I thought the guys in the Cab were at fault. Then the passenger told me "See this guy, he drove bicycle rashly and now he is holding us." The young aggressive guy on the bicycle said "This guy abused me verbally." I said "Is that all ?" They guy on the bicycle said "How dare he abuses me. I will hit him. He agains showed his fists."

The scoundrels tried to take the cyclist's side.
Getting the whole story I verbally abused the cyclist more than once and told him "Ok now I abuse you what will you do ?"

He came near me asking me to fight.
I told him "I do not want to fight you" ( in I don't care tone)

Hearing this the scoudrels from the crowd tried to instigate the aggressive guy to fight. But he could not fight !

I moved back.
The big scoundrel from the crowd came near me and said "I will hit you."

I moved back 2 steps and told him in stern and soft voice "You better not dare ! You don't know who I am. You don't mess with me."

He stopped !

I moved back to the place where some people I knew were there.

The cabbie started the cab and moved on.
The cyclist also pushed off soon afterwards.

The big scoundrel said from distance "I think the cyclist was a real fool. He could not fight."

They too pushed off.

Everyone pushed off without any fight.

I saved the poor passenger from getting hit and possibly getting robbed by these scoundrels and the cyclist without anyone having to actually fight.

How did I do this ?

Even I don't know.

No one was hurt and everyone went on their way.
No one was swindled either.
And I did not have to spend any money in saving the poor passenger.

I gave a homeless guy a Taco Bell crunchy taco a while ago.....

Actually, I used to do "Haircuts for the Homeless". The people who organized the event disbanded and it no longer happens, but a while ago there was an annual free haircut for the homeless and underprivileged. I must've washed hundreds of homeless heads each time.

material possesions only make people feel good temporarily.
the nicest thing you can do for someone is to make them feel good about themselves. just accept them as a human being and accept their faults. it's so rare these days that it would definitely make someone feel exceptionally good.
