I tried opening it with Microsoft Word, and an error comes up... not letting me even save it. This is what the error says "The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions. *Check the file permissions for the document or drive. *Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document." I've done all of these things, and nothing is working :(

If all else fails just open a new word document and copy the entire file contents of th RTF and paste into the word document.

Just change the extension of the file from .rtf to .doc.
Now you can use the file as an usual microsoft word document.

Open the file in Word and then save it as a .doc

just open with MS word and save as Word document
