I bought a used suitcase in really great shape, but when I got it home I realized it smells like ben-gay or Vicks vapo-rub. I wiped it off and aired it out but then stored it away for about 2 weeks and the odor is back. What can I do to get rid of the smell for good? Thanks for your help.

Take charcoal (the kind you use for grilling food with) put it in a coffee can, make slits in the lid of the coffee can. Put the can with the charcoal inside of the suitcase, close the suitcase, and store it this way. This works in houses with bad odor also. Charcoal was used in the first insoles for foot odor. Also check out the book Household Hints from Heloise. Good Luck!

Activated charcoal, calcium carbonate (chalk), and baking soda are three major home-cure products for odor removal.

Try placing one of the above on aluminum foil in a tin pie pan , close suitcase for several hours but be sure that you do not leave it unattended for very long. If moisture gets into the container, it may cause the growth of mildew.

Febreze, is a spray from Procter & Gamble that is designed to permanently remove garment odors, such as cigarette smoke or pet odors without washing or dry cleaning. P&G also recommends Febreze for household fabrics such as draperies, upholstery, and carpeting....hope this helps GOOD LUCK :o)

just take newspaper and lots of it....crumble them up and just cram them in there. Dont over load it....Dont crumble like you are making a ball of aluminum. Then start to throw these balls of newspaper into the suitecase. Make sure that they fit in such a way that the balls of newspaper dont jumble all over the place when you move the suitcase. This just makes sure that you get enough newspaper in there. Leave this there for a couple of days. Then just keep changing the newspaper after every 2 days or so. Do this until the smell is gone. Its either this or you wash your suitcase with soap...

Try baking soda or Febreze, and air it out for a long time.
