Hope you remember me.

Dowry marriage is still existing in many parts of India. But the percentage is really decreased. The people are not demanding nowadays. But ther are happily accepting whatever the bride's father offers.

I hope this trend will go soon.

However this is not applicable for love marriages.

Tragedy in Indian society this evil still exist. The younger generation who are speaking so loudly against it are them-self expect Dowry when it comes to their own marriage. Its not only guys even gals force their parents for giving them dowry at the time of marriage.

Yes, it is mandatory in Islam to pay dowry, but it is not meant for the purchase of the woman. It is simply to show appreciation and value and also not necessarily cash. Furthermore, the dowry belongs to the bride and she is to determine what she wants from the groom, which she knows he can conveniently afford.

Yes. My friends sister got married recently and the husbands family had to give her fam a dowry and this was in America just last year. The families are from central Africa , they just stuck to their traditions although they live here.
I thought it was weird b/c they had to determine the price of the bride, like how much she is "worth" and pay the family for her.

in some countries yes it wouldnt go over to well i n the states though as it goes along the lines of a woman being "given" away as a piece of property ect

One time, I got told I was an 8 cow woman. It was suppose to be a compliment...saying I was worth a lot.

Yes in South Africa, you have to pay 1500-3000 pounds(uk).
