My girlfriend brings a diary to work. She trusts people not to read it. LOL. Per company security policy, the only bags allowed at work must be clear so that the contents can be seen. She told me some things she wrote in there, such as how much she hates so and so from management. Everyone knows she is writing in a diary. Every one can see the diary in the bag. She leaves said bag unattended. She does not believe me that this is not a good idea. I must also add that co-workers (we work at the same place) have asked me if I had read it, and admitted they were curious as to the mysteries said diary holds. Holler at your boy, and tell me I ain't crazy.

no, i don't think it's a smart idea. i read people's diaries and i'm pretty sure there must be people like me in your workplace. though these people were pretty close to me and i got to know them a lot better. but then, sometimes i write things in my diary that i don't want anybody else to read.

one more thing. for a year or so, i used to maintain a diary for others to read. i would try to make it interesting for them. (like maintaining a blog). if she writes this way, it's not a big problem.

anyway, people are GOING to read her diary.

I think it's a bad idea to leave the diary unattended at work. People are curious and surely someone won't resist to look in her diary sometime when she steps out of the room. Considering that she has written about people in the workplace and surely some very personal things too, if a colleague reads it it will probably be a disaster.

You're not crazy, you're right. Too bad that she won't believe you until her colleagues prove you right.

I find it curious that she feels the need to bring a diary to work. Someone is bound to steal it or read it or do something with it.

Especially if it appears she's writing in it rather than doing her work. At some point someone will tell her supervisor that she's doing it and she'll probably be asked to stop or do it on her break.

I once brought a small notebook to help me do a project and I had a few people curious to know what was in it. As soon I as made it clear that it was for work and that if they wanted to know how to run a certain office programs they could read it, people lost interest.

Venting is OK.. i feel everyone should vent.

If i get frustrated at work.. of course i might vent and say so and so annoyed me today.. made me work twice as hard..

But of course it dosent mean i hate this person.
but writing it down in a diary.. and leaving it around were they could read it.. is foolish and dangerous for not only her job but future reference.
If that person read what i said (that said day) he might or she might think i mean it always.. when in fact i was only venting.

Its a bad practice.

It is crazy and stupid but I think that deep inside she wants people to read it. Not that she won't feel violated if it ever happens, just that her subconscious wants people to know how she feels.
