My other half is a mariner away from home for long periods. His times at home are like a honeymoon we spoil him and do all the things he wants to do.I assume your hubby is getting better pay for being away?Bite the bullet and get on with it .Surely it wont be forever or you would relocate.Make ever y second count when you are together. If he is on land you can phone and e-mail.How about letters and cards we hide little notes and treats in my hubbies seabag .Of course you miss oneanother you will just have to work on your relationship that little bit harder.
In answer to your question .My hubby has been a seaman now for 48 years he has had one christmas home in the last 7 of those years and goes away tomorrow untill the middle of january Yes you can make it work, others have gone before and survived.Hope you get on O.K.think possitive and make your time together really count

What's keeping you from moving to where he is? The fact that you haven't tells me that you and he may have been growing apart way before he took the new job. Him taking this position and jeopardizing the relationship was maybe his way of getting out of it and leaving you to make the hard decisions about your marriage. At any rate, statistically, long distance relationships don't last. So either move to be with him if that's what you both want or continue to drift apart. Sad to say, you're at a fork in the road and those are basically the only two alternatives.

Not very long. This isn't the solution, can you work something else out? You moving there? Him quitting the job? The relationship WILL suffer and no job is worth it.
Hope you work it out, 16 years is a lot to invest.

Certainly. Rama left his wife Sita for 14 Years.
How many Mariners and seamen leave their wives for Years and years?
Once an american mountain climber fallen down from the Everest and fall into deep coma for 16 Years. Amazingly he recovered from the Coma and returned home and found his wife married three times!!!!
In ancient times a warrior gave the key of his house to his best friend and said "I go to the war and if do not returned within a Month's time consider that I am dead and have my house and wife as yours" and went to the war on his horse.
On the halfway he saw his friend was riding an another horse at a cyclone speed following him and crying " Hey..........stop.!stop!!"
"What?"
" On your hurry you have given me the wrong Key!"

It certainly can. What you have to makek sure though is that you are giving enough of mind stimulation, to make sure he hasn't forgotten, how do you do that, you know him by now. Send him e-mails, dont' call at inconvenient times and make him miss you but not for too long. You can do it for sure.

A relationship can last and even prosper over long distances and separations. Its all to do with whether you love each other enough to make it work..
