I have medium brown (like a dark tan) combination skin and I have not found a proper foundation, concealer or any other type of makeup yet. Any suggestions? Also, are there any websites that give good advice on how to apply makeup for Indian skin? Thanks!

My friend is Indian and she usually just wears black eyeliner all the time. Indians can get away wearing less makeup than most people. I’ve noticed that Indians have great lashes so you probably don’t have to wear mascara unless you want to. Indian people also have stunning eyes. Warm eye shadow colors would look best on you Also, you might want to have 2 shades of foundation to even out your skin tone being that your forehead is darker than the rest of your face and your cheeks are the lightest but this may not be the case for you so if not you just need one. Don’t forget to blend! You’ll probably have to practice and experiment some. To find a foundation go to a department store where you can get a shade to match your skin. I’m not sure what brand to use for Indian skin but personally the brand I like is mac but I haven’t tried their foundation only their eye shadow and eyeliner. If that is too expensive the next best brand, which can be found at places like target, is L’Oreal. I have L’Oreal truematch which is a liquid foundation and L’Oreal bare naturale which is a powder. They both work well. For blush use a bronzer or a berry shade.

I understand your frustration. I'm a SE Asian and it has proven to be extremely difficult in finding the right makeup for my skin color.

I've been eyeing Loreal's True Match foundation for a while and have just checked out their site: www.lorealparisusa.com.
They boast that this product will match any skincolor regardless of race or origin. Try the shade match feature and a video will load to help you match your skintone and undercolor. They'll also show you how to apply the makeup.

I will go out and get the recommended shade to experiment in a few days. If it is either too dark I will just find a shade lighter and mix it until I get the perfect shade and vice versa. Hope that helps.

Oh my - let me tell you - I started using Bare Escentuals in January and have almost the entire collection now! I LOVE IT! You can start out with the starter kit, you get two foundations - you usually have to mix them a bit to get the right color - its so simple! You get Warmth - which looks dark but it isn't - it just adds a natural sunlight look to you. You get Mineral Veil - it perfects your look and gives you that smooth finish : )
You get three brushes - the brushes are unlike any other - don't try any imitations - the B.E. brushes are wonderful! You usually get a starter DVD also - you will watch it the first couple times you put it on - I remember I panicked and thought Id never remember the order to put it on : )
I put mine on a little heavier than the DVD suggests - it works well for me.
They are on QVC all the time, so check QVC for great deals : )
I have almost all of my friends and co-workers wearing B.E. now - we are addicted : )
I think my favorite would be the Well Rested for your eyes - no matter how tired you are - you put that around your eyes and you look...well...well rested!
Oh - and the Bisque - it covers trouble spots - liver spots - blemishes - dark circles and other things : )
It DOESN'T come off when you sweat - its safe to sleep in!
I cant say enough about this make up - try it - you will LOVE it!
Oh - and don't panic - your face might feel a little dry the first 3 - 4 days that you use it - but it will go away!
Hope this helps -
~ B.E. NUT! : )

Nice liquid black eyeliner just on the line of your eyelashes. A light pink for the apples of your cheeks can really make your face more bright and energetic. Don't use a bronzer that is somewhat close to your skin. apply a little lighter color than your skin would be great. I personally think that a bit of white eyeshadow where the inner side of your eyes are would look best.

i would use the natural look! brown hair and tan is a knock out. -i use bare naturale blush in rose glow, but i happen to be not white, but fair skinned.. experiment with friends blushes first? you dont want to buy a whole one and only use one brush full because it was too intense or pale, etc. [wal-mart] -be very careful with eye pencils!! all depending on your facial features, etc. they can be no compliment to you! [maybe add a picture for future questions like this?] so i would not suggest eyeliner at all. -eyeshadows are best in light colors.. unless you are one who is a bit bolder and would wear sky blue and hot pink, i would suggest pearly white [very little bit just so they shimmer!] and again [walmart] -and as for mascara, it all depends on what you want with your eyelashes! if you want thicker lashes.. theres tons of different kinds that work! [for an added pop, get an eyelash curler and crimp until they stick almost straight up! they will make your eyes a lot easier to see and overall cuter to look at! [i use the colossal volum' express by maybelline for mascara] i would also suggest [walmart!-for both your mascara and eyelash curler]

i have to say this first, because i don't want you to miss it: nature gave you beauty, and natur(al) is always gonna be the best. especially with indian looks (i have several close friends), mascara and a thin eyeliner enhances the eyes and really brings out the beauty in the face.

on foundation, there is a type called "bare minerals" that is really encredible on darker (as in, not pale) skin. on top of the fact that it makes your skin look even and everything, its extremely light, made of all natural materials and doesn't clog up the pores. its now come to most target / walgreens / everything like them around, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

mac and avon are generally considered to be good products all around, mac especially when looking for foundation and concealer. their stores have the counters with people who can help you math your skin tone to a product, and they only hire professionals that have some sort of legitimate credentials with past experiences, so they are really good.

enjoy!

If anyone is struggling with stubborn dark circles on Indian skin, MAC's Studio Finish Concealer works great on dark skin. Have a look here :
