All fanboyism aside, I'll try not to start a war here... I own 2/3, and will make it 3/3 when PS3's become readily available...
XBOX 360 has Gears of War as an exclusive title, Microsoft owns bungie, so Halo 3 will be a 360 exclusive, THP8 is on 360, and has severe slowdown issues on the PS3 (Don't know why, the PS3 really is a more powerful system, but it sucks hard on PS3, played 2 different copies on 2 different PS3's). Rainbow Six: Vegas is going to be on 360 and PS3 as well.
The XBOX360 had a rough launch, hardware wise, but most, if not all of the issues have been stabilized, they've got a healthy fan base, and a solid online play system (XBOX Live!). 360's are readily available, and are cheaper than the PS3 by 200 bucks, assuming you can find one for less than 3 grand. Sony products, playstation especially, has a history of rough launches, which I understand, because they always push the envelope in terms of innovation, technology, and sheer graphical horsepower... On that note...
The PS3 has the absolute muscle advantage, it's incredibly powerful, has new technology (Blu-Ray), which may prove to be a massive advantage, and should be much easier to promote than the laughable UMD crap they've been foisting on everyone for a long time... The PS3 is a VERY capable system, Resistance is great, and is not only a good game in and of itself, but it's also a technological marvel! The Cell processor allows physics, and post-process rendering effects that were only the stuff of dreams a few years ago. the PS3's been "hit" recently with a slew of backwards compatibility problems, which I'm sure will be taken care of in time, although the same was said about the 360's backwards compatibility, and it remains to be resolved...
In my opinion, the PS3 will mature to be an incredible, if not unstoppable system in the next few years, but for the next 6 months up to 2 years... The 360 is the better buy, also, don't count out the Wii, the game line-up isn't as impressive as the other 2, but the Nunchaku controller is a true revolution in gaming, and the simple, engrossing games can capture anyone's attention, from age 5, to 95! Play a bunch of both of them, then make a decision for yourself, supreme value and innovation on the input front? Middle ground, strong tech, and a trillion dollar corporation's backing? Bleeding edge tech that's still having growing pains? You can't go wrong with any system, just make sure you pick the one that's right for you

Are you a real gamer? Because then you should know that Tony Hawk Project 8 is already out on the 360 and so is Rainbow Six: Vegas! And Halo 3 is no where near coming out soon, yes they'll have the beta testing maybe in March or April for multiplayer in the marketplace but it won't be out until November 7,2006 or possibly even later. And then there's also Halo Wars.
It's not about what's better, but what do you like. The systems are completely different really, they both have different games exclusively for each console.

Gears of War is a great game. Tony Hawk Project 8 is also on the Xbox 360. When Halo 3 comes out you will have to get a Xbox 360 anyway to play it, so i would go with the Xbox 360 right now and get Gears of War.

The technical comparisons I have read actually cite the XBOX 360 as the machine with the advantage in terms of practical computing power for gaming. The software that is available will probably be better on the Microsoft machine this time round - I am leaning towards the Xbox this time.
Anyway the original XBox was more powerful than the PS2 but it was the machine that was first to market and had the best supply of games that became dominant.
We shall see what happens but the Xbox has a huge headstart this time.

PS3 is obviously better than the Wii and the Xbox 360
It has Backward compatibility with the PS and the PS2 so it already has more games than the competition, It has more third-party support, its game are just as good if not better, it has more Game Franchises, and the graphics are way better.
