Additional notes:
* My Da was a binge alcoholic... the majority of my family see me (I'm guessing) as a really crappy daughter. I'm not easily led.
* He was a pilot... a very intelligent man... he could fix or better anything mechanical.
* He was musical... loved voice and guitar.
* He lived for women... he loved his good looks and influence.
* He was kind... regardless of how little he had... he'd give.
* He was shy, unless the drink was into him.
* I loved him.

Honey, my Daddy died a year ago in october. It is so hard to get use to them actually being gone. Dont call yourself a crappy daughter. Remember him! Love him! Cry laugh and do what ever you want to if it is helping you to grieve. Talk about him as much as you need to. Nothing can replace the father figure in your life so I think you still need to grieve.

Im sure anything you do today you will make your father very happy.
It will be a hard day for you Im sure but just thinking about him in a positive way and all the things that you mentioned would be a really lovely start.
PS Im sure you are really not as crappy a daughter as you think - you cant be that bad asking a question like this ...

Get the best pictures of your dad enlarged and framed to put in your living room. It will be better, if they are in black and white. You can choose his pictures with his pilot uniform on, his best actor-like photos and his photos fixing something and of course photos of you with him. Put them strategically. If you want to throw a party, you can make it a binge party with drinks and snacks and tell your guests that you are donating some old clothes and things in the memory of your father and if they want they can also bring things they would like to donate in his honor. Play soft music during the party that your father liked.

Go visit his grave, if you can and tell him everything you meant to him. Then you can give a small donation to an alcoholic help group or family support group.

So sad but you do need to celebrate. Have you thought about taking one of his uniform shirts and making a pillow from it? This is easy to do. You can keep it close by to comfort you. Best of luck to you!!

celebrate his life by making something of yours.

you really sound as though you love him. i'm sure he never thought you were a crappy daughter so don't buy into that crap for a moment. god bless you and take my advise.

im sorry to hear of your loss. to show your respects i'd go to his grave where you buried him or where you spread his ashes and just talk to him, he can hear you. yesterday was my grandmothers birthday, she died when i was 6 months old. this is what i used to do every year to pay my respects to her, but im in kuwait right now and i couldnt do that and i feel horrible about it. just go there and tell him whats on your mind and how good of a father he was to you, best wishes, may he rest in peace

Very touching. Continue to remember him often and accept things for what they are and you will come up with something, I'm sure.
