They are the same genre of product, but there are differences--mainly related to downloading music. The downloads are protected with an embedded DRM (digital rights management). Unfortunately, Apple, Microsoft (for the Zune) and other players each have their own. So you can't play music that you buy from iTunes on a non-iPod player, and you can't play music you buy from someplace like Yahoo music on the iPod.

If you only plan on ripping your own CDs, they also have different music formats. Both can play MP3, but other than that formats vary--for instance, non-Apple players can play WMA files, and Apple has its own AAC format. If you have tunes in one of those formats, stick with the player that can play them. If you only plan on using the mp3 format, then don't worry about it.

The big advantage with the ipods is that there are a million accessories, and the accessories are available everywhere. With others you're more limited in choice, and you probably have to buy online.

As far as the Nano--the reason people like it, even though it seems expensive for a smaller capacity, is (1) very small size, and (2) it's a flash drive instead of a hard disc, which makes it better for running, exercising, and other bouncy activities that could damage a hard disc-based player.

The difference between the iPod and an Mp3 player is nothing, because the iPod is an Mp3 player.

But now for your dilemma

Like another previously said, it is like comparing Fords to Ferraris, they both have the same gas, the same tires, etc.

except

the Ferraris go way faster than a Ford.

What I mean is that the Philips Mp3 player is a good player, especially for the price, and if you want something that will do the job, then that's good. But the thing is, the iPod comes with iTunes which is seamlessly integrated with the iPod BECAUSE it was made for iPod. Windows Media Player wasn't made for the Philips, so it might not have the same features.

Also, you might be comparing apples to oranges (excuse the pun). The iPod is a flash drive, which means that there are no moving parts, which is good for runners and other atheletes. Another thing is the form factor: the iPod is very thin, but not flimsy. I don't exactly know what player you are talking about, but if you just want a cheap player, go with Philips. But if you want seamless integration, flash memory, and a small form factory and are willing to pay the price, the iPod it is.

Let's just say that Ipod is the hottest thing around now. Mostly everyone wants one. Ipod is a Mp3 players and It's no different from any others. The Differences of an IPOD and MP3 is the looks, styles, and the comfort of the buttons on it.

The iPods are very easy to use, work quite reliably, and look good. For a large part, it's just buying the Apple brand name, and buying into the whole "iPod Generation" movement. Other MP3 players can be just as good (or better) than the iPod, it's just based on your preferences. Do a Google search for "[mp3 player name] reviews" and see what other people have said about that specific model of MP3 player. Hope that helps!

okay, the simple difference is the infurstructure behind these items. the ipod is well-established in connection to itunes and the help-services are like walmart - same quality everywhere (although better, depending on your views of walmart). the mp3 players do not work with itunes, meaning they work on the variety of other programs out there, meaning its a lot more confusing. also, if your songs are on the itunes network then they are not easily transferable to an mp3 player - you would need to copy all of your songs onto dics, re-import them into the computer on a program that is compatible with your mp3 player, and then use the mp3. so really, it depends on your unique situation. hope that helps!

both are mp3 players.

its like saying do you want a Ford or a Ferrari? both are cars, both have tires, both take gas....but one gets more attention than the other.

that is the only difference.
