You should get a router and not a hub, a hub won't work because the cable company will probably only give you 1 IP. The router allows you to create your own network and you need just the one IP.
However, you will probably have to use the PC MAC address in the router setup. There should be a place to put this in. This allows you to put in the router without the cable co. knowing you switched to the router.
If you need help see if some local person can stop by to help set this up.

<>The ignorance of the previous answer aside, yes, a router would be the best way to accomplish what you want to do. You can get a Linksys or similar, either wired or wireless, at Radio Shack and electronics stores for between $50-120. If you want your computer(s) to be wireless, you will also need wireless network cards, if they don't already have them (newer laptops do. Set up the router according to the instructions, but NOTE- DO the LEAST possible setup! They can have you playing with settings forever and you'll never get it to work. If you have a friend who can help, so much the better. PS: Get a Router, not a Hub. A hub will not do the same thing.

Router will work only becuase splits the bandwidth into two networks. No a hub is not the same, however it will make it work but much much slower because of bandwidth drops big time...With all that said and done yes a router will make it work out since it would be like having two networks I would go with wirless and not cable, just because its expensive.

you could purchase a router, yet save in ideas there are countless kind of routers. there is the kind that you connect a computing device to it yet you would possibly want to course the cable to the different room. the different one is instant that you'll be able to connect computers everywhere contained in the abode with out any wiring.

go to any electronics home store and get a hub.
output of the modem goes to the input of the hub,
then you can connect as many PC's as the hub has ports.
2, 5 10 etc
