I recently just accepted a promotion and will now be managing someone who USED to be just a coworker to me. The thing is, its a two person office and she considers me "like her sister". I don't even like her all that much and think she has a lot of "growing" to do to be worthy of her assistant manager title. She's rude, unprofessional and has no regard for company policies. I don't know what to do with her, and the worse part is, she probably doesn't see me as a "manager" and I worry that she's going to think this is all fun and games. What should I do?

<>YOu will need to sit down and establish the type of relationaship you want to have with her early on...first thing, in fact. You need to explain to her what you require of her, and how you will be rating her performance. If you want it to be strictly professional, you will have to state that. You are a manager now....exert your authority. But remember, managers are made or broken by their subordinates.

Since you don't even like her that much, well it's time that you straighten out your act. basically take over your responsibility and work. Even if it has to come to an extend that you have to direct her, just be in control.
