I have a 1995 hyaundai accent, at time the speedometer wont pass 20mph and the car sound as though its racing. I check the engine and the transmission fluid and they both seem fine. Any advice

If it's a manual, then your clutch is going out.

If it's an automatic, then it's not shifting out of first gear. This is probably because the valves are sticking. Sometimes it can be due to a vacuum line that got disconnected somehow.

Either way, you'll have to take it in to get it either rebuilt, repaired or replaced. It's probably going to cost more than what the car is worth.

It sounds like your transmission may be alright still, as long as the fluid is red, and not burnt (assuming you have an automatic) I wouldn't drive it unless I had to though, take it to a shop right away, and find out the issue. it could be something simple like a lost governor spring.

i had a car w/ transmission issues where the transmission went out... and my uncle is a mechanic... if it feels like you stay in first gear and the won't shift try to manually shift. this is possible on an automatic.. start in your lowest gear and when the rpms go up, shift to the next gear til you are in drive. your reverse is usually the first gear to completely go out. so, don't pull where you may have to back up. better safe than sorry.
