A line is ALWAYS formed to use the women's bathroom, especially at amusment parks or other public places with a lager volume of people .It's irritating seeing the men's bathroom with NO line and I assume we have the same amount of stales.I guess since they have the option of using a urianl or stale that's why a line is less likely to be formed to use the men's bathroom.
Why do my fellow females take longer? Is it because we have our periods and have a few extra hygiene steps?

I am sure we have a few extra hygeine steps and since guys only have to unbuckle, unzip, whip it out and in, zip buckle and that is it. Hopefully they wash their hands too. Us women on the other hand do have a few more hygeine steps, more often have a kid with us that takes extra time, we have more complicated things to wear and also have to take extra time to hang our purses and jackets, make sure there isnt anything weird on the seat letalone that there is t.p. available. then we do our thing by sitting down, wiping make sure we are clean and then tidy our clothing before exiting the stall after flushing and of course grabbing all of our belongings with us and washing our hands/drying hands. We are much more complicated or men are just lucky with quick equipment and / or gross depending on whether they wash their hands.

Because in the woman's bathroom there are between 2 and 4 stalls. Sometimes at most public places there may be more, between 2 and 6. Is it enough? NO! The time it takes a woman to get in the stall, put down a lid liner( the paper protection), squat above the seat, go, and rearrange, it can take as long as 2 minuets. If you are at a concert with 10,000 people, and half the people there are female, do the math. If only 100 go at any one time and there are say 10 bath rooms with 5 stalls each that's only 50 stalls. Half of you will have to wait those 2 or 3 minutes. By that time more woman will have to go so the line gets longer. Men don't need but one our two stalls. We can use a trough or a urinal. Most mens rooms at public places have 6 to 8 urinals. Men take about a minute or less to go. Or mabey its because women have to take there girlfriend with them to go. If that is the case then you have just doubled the number of people standing in line. Try going alone and see if that helps.

Long Bathroom Line

A couple of reasons -

1) Women have more stuff to do than men do Us guys only have to unzip and whip it out - you have to pull your pants down or your skirt up, then pull your panties down, then cover the seat (and you have to hang up your coat and purse too) and if it's that time of the month, or if you have kids with you, there's even more steps.

2) Most public facilities were designed by men, and they have a lot more urinals for men than they do toilets for women. For instance, I used to work in a convention center where the men's rooms had 12 urinals and 10 toilets for men, but the ladies rooms only had 10 toilets for women. There's a movie theater I know that has only 3 toilets in the ladies room, but 10 urinals and 3 toilets in the mens room (and that theater has 3 screens, so when the theater is crowded they only have 3 toilets for over 300 women)

So, you ladies need more time to use the toilet, and sexist architects don't put in enough toilets for you to use.

This is what I don't get. Architects must be aware of this problem. Why don't they allocate more space for the women's restrooms?

If I were a woman, I'd 'vote with my feet' and not patronize places that make me wait in lines, and write to let the owners know how I feel.

hmmm... I bet shopping malls don't have this problem. Maybe you can just follow the money to answer this question.

Because women can't just pop in, pull it out, shake it off & go. We have to go through hanging up our purse, pulling the pants & underwear down, putting the paper down on the seat, sitting down, wiping EVERY time then pulling the garments back up, re-buttoning and re-buckling. It's a more time-consuming process. And yes, we do have to take into consideration that a portion of those ladies going to the restroom have even MORE steps to take if they are on their period.

Sorry if this sounds crude. It's just meant to be explanitory.

You partly answered the question yourself. Men can use the urinals and it's also enough for them to open their zip when they pee, while we always need a stall and have to pull down our pants (which means more time pulling them back up and adjusting our clothes afterwards). We often need to wipe ourselves. And then there's our periods, which always prolong our toilet visits.

I think those are the main things that make us need more time in there than the men.

There can be numerous explanations. You are correct about us having periods and are more hygienely concious. Also we have to lower our trousers or up our skirts, sit, wipe and pull up, whereas, all they have to do is unzip and shake. Also we statistically tend to wipe our hands afterwards and primp. May God Bless
