Your mom's story reminded me of this news report I saw a while ago. There was this woman in China who did a check up and found out that she has two uteri and two sets of ovaries, it was a very very rare case though. If your mom only had her period in her very early pregnancy, she might just be experiencing spotting, and that's not really periods, and you might experience some spotting too, it varies from women to women, it's not really genetic. But if she had her normal period through out the entire pregnancy, she might be like that woman on the news. Go have a check up before you plan to get pregnant, just to make sure everything is ok.

Many women may continue to have a period up to 2 months into pregnancy. I just learned from a doctor that additional bleeding may occur due to countless reasons. The key is the coloring of the blood. If it is dark, then it probably isn't anything major, but you should get it checked out anyway. If it is bright red, go to the hospital immediately. I just went through all of that with my wife 3 weeks ago.

I don't know the % but a lot of women continue to have their periods/spotting for several months even all the way to the last trimester. In some of the cases they don't even know that they're pregnant because of a continued period.

Very Very Few. It's normal to have a little bleeding about 4 weeks after fertilization. It's called implantation bleeding, but other than that, any bleeding is bad. It can cause a still-born baby or can be the first sign to a miscarriage.
