You will have to shell out for acting classes and good photos, but from there you shouldn't pay anything except transportation to auditions. Just take their photos to a talent agent and let them do the rest.

You might look to see if you can get a sponsor, like Nascar drivers have. Not a commercial sponsor, necessarily, but any community you belong to -- ethnic, religious, community service. You might appeal to them for help and in turn, have the children entertain for them in whatever way they are gifted.

You can also make the most of any resource you have. Can you bake? Have a bake sale. If the children are committed to the idea, they should help out with things. If you need special costuming, can you sew or know someone who does? You can save over $1000 on a single outfit by making it yourself.

You will need to spend money on headshots and equipment (including outfits, shoes, any special things you need). Most good agents will not see anyone without a headshot because they want you to be able to present yourself (in this case, your kids) professionally -- that way clients will know you have some standards and knowledge of how the business works.

In many communities, there are also competitions for children that do not have an entrance fee, but they are fewer and fewer as the competition has heated up and more money has been made through them. If you live near or in a large metropolitan area, there should be a community of people who would have the information you need.

You might try a local library -- especially a children's library -- for more information. Librarians are generally good people and can point you in the right direction. Some schools will also know about such things -- particularly if you have a model, talent, or charm school.

With no real offense, and a suspicion that THEY are,,, as you say,,, I pray in all, that this thought might be for THEM, and not any form of ego booster for you as a parent.

Without knowing their ages, or their own PASSIONS,,, if they've developed any, I hope against all odds that you will at some point not be a Stage mom, pushing them in directions they may not want to explore?

An agent,,,BTW,,, is in it for the profit,,, not at all for any emotion you or your children might have, or develop.

I guess, to be kind, and respectful I suggest start small (no pun intended) baby steps to successes are often best.

Keep this in mind however. Rejection is a common condition, but shouldn't be taken as a personal attack. Consider too,,, if you've ever noticed,,, American Idol auditions. I use that as an example because it's honest and Blunt in what it shows.

Some people perceive themselves to be MORE than they are,,, and are often supported, morally and emotionally, by loving family and friends. Consider the odds, consider that tolerance, acceptance, and a strong self will are important qualities for the CHILDREN.

The modeling industry in New York City. This is where the commercials, publicists, movies, industrials, modeling, magazine publishers and print work is located. You will not find legitimate modeling agencies in other cities. Barbizon, John Robert Powers and others, are NOT modeling agencies, but scams. They will charge you thousands of dollars and give you nothing.

If you want your children to model it's NYC.

Live in or around Hollywood or the LA area. The newspapers advertise for cattle calls. They tell you what age group they are looking at. Hollywood is still THE place to be disccovered (which is free).
