Not nearly enough is done to promote tourism in this country, and not enough people will build good infrastructure to attract more discerning tourists to come here. Our standards of quality and service, despite the smiles, is way below most other countries. Vietnam overtook the Philippines in tourism numbers only 5 years after it opened up to the outside world and is way ahead now.
Malaysia received 76 million tourists so far this year, we're lucky to get 1 million genuine foreign tourists.
The government must make foreign ownership of businesses legal so that more investment will come in and the investors will finally believe that they may be able to keep their businesses instead of losing them to unscrupulous local partners.
The people in this country must also start to invest in infrastructure. They're extending the runway in Busuanga to accomodate larger planes, but where will all the new arrivals stay, there's only around 150 decent rooms on the whole island, and 70 of them are on the north side in 2 resorts. It seems everyone wants to get the people here and then build, which is a disaster, build first some quality rooms and then bring in tourists.
This is the most beautiful country in Asia with the friendliest people, but it's way behind all other countries here.
What happened, fifty years ago the Philippines was the number one in Asia???
