Windows Vista takes 1.2GB of ram just to run the operating system. Windows XP faster than Vista even with the 64 bit drivers on the beta test. I know DirectX 10 is going to come out for it @ the same time, but how can this be any good for gaming? The hardware will be 2 years behind. Everything out today is obsolete as soon as Windows Vista hits the shelf. When do you think the hardware will catch up? Microsoft is such a memory hog. :) omg...this is the big one people kept taking about in 2004....?

Way back when I was a new software developer I went to my boss one day and told him the software we were developing wouldn't run on the current computer. I was told not to worry that it would be taken care of. I continued to develop software that I knew wouldn't run, as my boss pushed for a new computer.
Our staff could have just as easily developed software that would have run on the current computer but that wasn't the goal. The goal was a new computer to begin with. We developed, the boss pushed and management spent money on a computer it could have done without.
Quick observation......the new dual core processors are out...:)

About the same thing has happened every time a new version of Windows has come out. The solution is to stop looking at the cheap PCs for now and buy a decent computer. Many computers today can run Vista just fine, but the 299 PC might have problems.

And you have way overstated the specs for Vista.

1.2gb ram won't be any problem. you just need a 1gb ram just do it. a 2.8 Pentium 4 and a 256 video card. that's would do it to run it and smoothly. If you want it to be like super performance. just take p4 3.2 and 2 gb ram and a 512 mb video card. that will do the work. nothing is impossible, the hardware already catch the technology nowadays. i think you're the one who need to catch up
