Highly unlikely. He won't get past Tendulkar's ODI centuries. He won't get to Viv's fastest century in tests. There are several records he cannot get to. Though, for briefly he might have the highest run aggregate and number of centuries in tests.

Ricky Ponting has to score another 3 centuries and 2856 runs to reach the 35 centuries scored by Sachin Tendulkar and the runs scored by Brial Lara in Test Cricket. While he may be able to achieve the same, he will never be able to reach 40 centuries and 14481 runs in ODI which Sachin has scored and also the strike rate of Sir Bradman.

tendulkar of'course is uncomparable in ODI's....nobody in the near or far future is likely to get there....
and in tests...yes....he's gonna get close to sachin or even pass him......but LARA is in supreme form too..... and he's doin just that what sachin has done in ODI's......LARA would remain there at the top in Tests!!!!
