Last winter, around X'mas time, I developed sore ribs on the right side (am right handed). It felt like I fractured a rib or bruised one. I was very busy with X'mas preps at this time and thought I must have bumped into something. It ached like hell for 3 weeks! Then it went away. Now, its back again and I know I did not bump into anything; although I had been very busy with moving house. I am 52. Has nayone else ever had this happen to them? If so, what did you do apart from taking Ibupofren? Will appreciate any info.

You might want to check out the symptoms of "costochondritis" -- inflammation of the cartilage connecting the ribs -- to see if that condition is similar to what you are experiencing. (see links below)

The good news is that it's not serious, it usually goes away on its own, and it can be treated with various painkillers. You might want to try a heating pad, or ice packs, or alternating the two.

Just in case, however, I would recommend a visit to your doctor to confirm. If it were something more serious, like your liver, gallbladder, or heart trouble, you wouldn't want to miss the early warning signs.
