There are a couple ways to get songs for an ipod:
1. rip them from CDs you own via your computer
2. download them from iTunes onto your computer
3. other illegal and unmentionable methods

If you have a different brand than ipod, you can download from many other music stores, or sign up for a subscription service that allows unlimited downloads as long as you keep paying the fee.

For the ipod, you connect the ipod to your computer with a cable and use the itunes software to synch the songs to the ipod.

You can either buy them off Itunes or transfer them from your CDs to the computer & then to your IPod.
