AFI the 5 flowers?

Okay, I've been a fan of AFI for a long time.
I'm in the DF and stuff, but I still have no idea what the 5 flowers are and the whats behind it.
anyone help? i've tried reading the Message boards but that just made me so confused. I feel so stupid.
