I have used domperidone (motilium) with great success, after having horrible results with reglan, which made me depressed and cranky and didn't improve milk supply by much.

The combination that worked for me was domperidone and the herb fenugreek. When my supply began lagging with my first child, I started taking the two of those, and within 3-4 days, I saw a sizeable increase in my milk supply.

When I ran out of domperidone, which I had to get from overseas pharmacies via the internet because its not readily available here in the U.S., I tried the reglan, because that one *is* prescribed in the U.S. There's all sorts of weird side effects, and continued usage can lead to serious problems. Domperidone has no side effects, and can be used long-term. I used it daily for about 8 months, with no side effects at all.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I have not used motilium to increase supply, but in a quick lookup on line it looks like the generic name for this drug is domperidone. Domperidone is the most effective drug for increasing milk supply that is available as far as I am aware. There are a couple other drugs that increase supply (such as Reglan and sulpiride) but from reports of other mothers domperidone is the most effective with the fewest side effects.

Domperidone has been given a L1 rating (safest) and is approved for use in Lactating mothers by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The other two drugs are rated L2 (safer). All are intended for other uses but as a side effect they increase prolactin and therefore milk supply.

If you aren't nursing or pumping often enough, even the drugs won't work. You have to be removing the milk from your breasts if order to tell your body to make more milk.

nurse more often
pump more often
try eating oatmeal every day
consider taking the herb fenugreek
