Of the puzzle games "Rush Hour", if you will forgive the pun, has quite a bit of mileage. It's very portable, there are expansion packs, and it is fun to introduce it to other people and watch their thinking. The original version is almost certainly the best.

A large range of solo/solitaire boardgames exist, but their attractiveness will varying by taste concerning the theme (many military ones), complexity and the space and time required.
"Roads and Boats" might be the largest currently available, but it's impressive in more ways than that, and plays with more than one person as well.

(I still return to "Ambush" and "Mosby's Raiders" occasionally.)

There are hundreds of Solitaire Games. Patience is the most common. Starting with the seven columns and pulling them off in rank and file.
Here's one. Deal 7 cards face up 3 deep. From here you have to pull cards off the stacks in multiples of ten You must take 3 cards at a time and they have to add up to ten twenty or thirty. The object is to eliminate the seven rows. Once you remove all the cards from a row you don't replace it. Once you have more than 3 cards in your rows you must pull either the top 2 cards and the bottom one -the top card and the bottom 2 cards for the bottom 3 cards. If you complete this move and 3 more cards at either the top or the bottom add up to 10.20,or 30 you may pull them also. Once you have you initial seven cards 3 deep up and you have pulled any of the cards you can-you lay them face down in a pile. You take the rest of the deck that you have not dealt and place one card at the bottom of each of your columns. Remove any multiples of 10.,20 or 30. Once you have completed all the cards in the deck you pick up the discard deck and play them, until either all the cards are down in columns on the table or you have picked them all up and put them in the discard pile. If you pick all the cards up you win, If you run out of cards to play on the columns you lose. It's a hard Solitaire game to win.

I'm a big board gamer, and my favorite website is http://www.funagain.com

If you go to their advanced search, it lets you search by number of players. If you enter a range of 1 to 1, it will give you a list of all of their games that can be played by only one player.

I figured this might give you a chance to find games that are more of your interest. Hope this helps.
