I think he would like to spend a day with you doing something that you both like to do. Tickets to a game? A weekend somewhere golfing or fishing? Make him feel appreciated and loved for all that he has done for you by planning a day to spend together doing something that you know he will enjoy.

First of all, part of the joy Christmas is the surprise of the gifts and the excitement of opening them each year so he probably just wanted you to have an awesome Christmas. Honestly, it's not all that horrible that you went looking for them but obviously your dad doesn't like it, so maybe you should just consider waiting. You should probably apologize too.... To answer you question, he was slightly overreacting with the whole "ruining Christmas thing" but you shouldn't have looked for them anyway. And just tell your mom "Hey I know you are going to be mad at me but I went looking for my Christmas gifts again. Everything was wrapped so I didn't see anything but I just wanted to tell you because I felt bad keeping it to myself." Or something along those lines. Just remember though that Christmas isn't really all about gifts and if you looked for them or not. Just enjoy that you have your family, health, and happiness because not many people do. ( I know it sounds cheesy but you get what I'm saying). Enjoy Christmas as much as you can because it's only once a year. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Years, too. I wish you the best of luck with this! God bless and good luck! -Linake

It was my favorite male gift of all time.
I got every MAN in the family this two years ago. Literally!
I purchased them all in one day, went back the next week and purchased more. It was weird, but I only carried one into the house on Christmas morning and when I did they went wild! All of them actually said, OH I wish I got one of those! The gift "hand out" came to a screaming halt so all the guys rushed my SUV to go put them in their cars! Tools, Car supplies, Fishing gear, Wood crafter and Stained Glass maker [ each used it for something different]
Then last year I gave almost every woman the same thing for totally different reasons. From Garden, Household Tools to Scrapbooking.
A craftsmen rolling "plastic" tool box. It was small and can be rolled just like a small suitcase. It was perfect.
About $30 and its at Walmart.
One of the guys when to his local Walmart and purchased himself three more so that each project had its OWN rolling tool box and the stuff was not lost or dirty He rolled and stacked them on shelves.

If he was my dad, I would send him on a vacation possibly where it was warm- somewhere where there was golfing, fishing, and a handyman convention. If the budget was tight- i would give him a Lowe's gift card or Homedepot and let him shop.

Set up a fishing trip for the two of you some where you haven't been before. Maybe make it a guys only trip and have some of the mutual family friends along too.

I was at GI Joes the other day and they have sports packages you can buy. Like a fishing one or golf one...I think you should do something like that. They may be pricey as I did not ask how much they were.
